We’re Building Our Dream Home!
It’s finally happening and it still doesn’t feel real! We’ve dreamed about this farmhouse for so many years, and now it’s becoming a reality. We have worked incredibly hard to get here and we’re just so completely grateful for this beautiful blessing. Here’s a little sneak peek at our house plans! When we couldn’t find classic farmhouse plans to suit our needs, we drew this house and floor plan ourselves and hired an architect to bring it to life…talk about a whirlwind. That process was tedious and extremely detailed and honestly, I’m glad it’s over!
So far we have completed our construction loan, staked off the house location and the pad has been prepared for the foundation. We are slated to be complete in six months, but I’m sure it may take a little longer 🙂 If you’re new here, you can read more about how we found the land we are building on here.
Making the House
Our house has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and Jeff is finally getting an office! He works from home and has been working out of a corner in our bedroom for two years. It’s a big challenge with three kids running around here all day. Speaking of kids, I’m so happy they are going to have their own rooms! The boys have always shared a room, so I have a sneaking suspicion that when we finally move in they will end up in each other’s beds at night…fine by me 🙂
Our new home will have two stories. The boy’s bedrooms, a bathroom and a playroom will be upstairs. Downstairs will house the living and dining rooms, kitchen, mudroom, office, master suite, Presley’s room and guest bathroom. The garage (the part that looks like a barn) is going to be a separate structure that is attached to the house through a little breezeway.
Making the Home
I’ve been a graphic designer for over 13 years and I can assure you, I’ve never given myself to something creatively like I have to this house. We have poured over every room, wall, cabinet and square inch of these plans. I’ve closed my eyes and walked through each space in my mind. Making sure it all makes sense. Making sure it’s perfect for our family.
That little bay window you see in the plans will be in Presley’s room. I thought that would be a sweet little spot for her to grow up in. I’m envisioning a window box outside with flowers to match the seasons. I always loved planting flowers with my mom when I was a little girl…maybe she will too.
I can’t wait to set up a video camera to record Jude and Knox running down the stairs on Christmas morning…that’s the stuff mama dreams are made of. Or seeing them coming down the driveway when they get off the school bus. Most of all, I just hope our babies feel like this home is their safe place. A soft spot that will always catch them, full of people that love them unconditionally.
I will be sharing more updates here as the construction progresses. But, if you want to follow along with the most frequent updates, go to my Instagram page, jacobsfarmstead.
